OK, so they park the truck on some deserted side street within a 5-7 minute drive of the hit. That way they get the van back inside the truck before the cops swarm the place. And they service the van with gas/oil etc while it is inside the truck. Might work.

So far the shooter's succeeded in large part, I think, because he's kept it simple: stake out a location, decide on an exit strategy, arrive on the spot, shoot, leave.

The more bells and whistles you add, the greater the risk of something going wrong. That's why I'm not absolutely convinced that there's an accomplice, persuasive as the arguments in favor of one are. Add another person and you may have problems. If the accomplice is "only" a driver, he may not be as committed as the shooter, and could get cold feet. Or, on the other hand, he might feel he's not getting enough of the glory. Somehow I just don't see this relationship running smoothly...
