Bombardier Wins Rail Transportation Contracts in Europe
and South America for a Total Value of $54 Million

MONTREAL, QUEBEC--OCTOBER 17, 2002 - 11:28 EDT
Bombardier Transportation has received new
orders in Europe and South America totalling approximately $54
million (35 million euros). The first order is for the supply of
automatic block equipment in Italy; the second, for the delivery
of trailer cars and bogies in France; and the third one calls for
the manufacture of bogies for the Caracas metro in Venezuela.

In Italy, the consortium comprised of Bombardier Transportation
and Ansaldo Segnalamento Ferroviario Spa has received from
Italferr, the engineering subsidiary of the Italian State Railways
(F.S.), an order for the supply of a new Rail Control and
Telecommunication system. Bombardier Transportation is responsible
for the delivery of the Automatic Block equipment (AB) for this
new system, which will be installed in the Messina-Patti line in
Sicily. The total value of the contract is approximately $72
million Cdn (46 million euros), with Bombardier Transportation's
share amounting to approximately $26 million Cdn (17 million
euros). Bombardier Transportation's engineering centre in Rome,
Italy will execute both the design and production of the system.
Deliveries are scheduled to be completed by the end of 2005.

In France, Bombardier Transportation received an order from
Alstom, valued at approximately $9 million Cdn (6 million euros),
for the supply of 6 trailer cars and 12 carrying bogies for ZTER
electrical multiple units. Production will also be undertaken at
Bombardier Transportation's facility in Crespin, France. This
contract, which represents an additional order to a contract
signed in 1999, brings to 57 the number of ZTER electrical
multiple units ordered to date by the SNCF. The trainsets are for
the following regions: Aquitaine (6), Bretagne (17), Centre (15)
Pays-de-Loire (14) and Poitou-Charente (5).

In Venezuela, Bombardier Transportation, through its participation
in the Frameca consortium, was awarded a $19-million Cdn order (12
million euros) for the manufacture or 56 motor bogies and 28
carrying bogies for the extension of the Caracas metro, which is
one of the largest underground systems in the world. The 84
bogies will be manufactured in Crespin, with deliveries scheduled
to start in June 2003. This is a follow-on order to previous
orders awarded since 1977. To date, 1,100 bogies have been
ordered to Bombardier Transportation for the Caracas metro.
