Banc of America Securities sees long, bumpy road to recovery for application software firms in notes 10/14/02

Analyst Bob Austrian previews earnings reports from Microsoft, Siebel Systems and PeopleSoft, saying that while the stocks seem cheap, company fundamentals remain discouraging. He doesn't expect upbeat news for 2003 from the firms later this week, and says we're midway into an application software spending hangover. Siebel will struggle to meet expectations, Austrian argues, while PeopleSoft should fare a bit better. He predicts strong results from Microsoft but cautious guidance on deferred revenues.

Why would customer anonymity (as opposed to employee anonymity) be important in a customer satisfaction survey?

If I were an unhappy customer, I think I'd probably want the company to know who I was. Wouldn't you?

Since when do customers who register their complaints anonymously get those complaints resolved?

The writers of these articles seem to be more interested in the science of surveying than common sense.
