DOT asked to weigh in on El Paso gas pipeline case

Wednesday October 16, 5:12 pm ET

WASHINGTON, Oct 16 (Reuters) - The U.S. Transportation Department has authority over pipeline safety issues, not the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, which recently ruled that giant El Paso Corp. (NYSE:EP - News) refused to run its California natural gas pipeline at capacity during the state's power crisis, two senators from energy states said on Wednesday.

It's always nice to have state senators taking up the cause. Anyone know how often if at all the DOT has overruled the FERC? This will be interesting since it was the DOT that ordered EP to cut back after their explosion in AZ.

Either way fines, if any won't be paid for years and there will be a settlement for far less than the numbers being thrown around by the shorts.
