I see a cult business as one whose product or services get written up in newspapers and mentioned as cults; that people (standard issue Americans) go out of their way for; that consumers meet as fans about or tell stories about. For me, I envision a cult as having a core of diehard fans who are a subset of the whole population. So I don't see Coca Cola, which is everywhere available and consumed, as a cult business. (That's my view anyway.)

Some examples of cults might be:

Harley Davidson (HDI), #1 of course, but also how about
Ducati (DMH) or Vespa (Piaggio Co)?
Elvis Presley (company/institution that owns rights)
Apple (AAPL) in the old days
Boston Celtics (BOX) and other sports franchises
In-and-Out Burger (private co)
Some specialty retailers? (Abercrombie? Quicksilver?)
Some specialty discounters? (99c stores?)
Some Warren Buffett companies? (boots, chocolate, jewelry, furniture)
Rolex watches (private business)
James Bond franchise (MGM)
Pokemon, etc. (KDE)
etc.
