If you are interested, I can dig out what a lawyer friend of mine had written on the subject some while ago, and send it to your PM. He was not as happy about as you seem to be. Yes, thanks, I'd be interested. I'm not a lawyer, but I did read the Geneva conventions, and 'unlawful combatant' does seem to fit Al Qaeda to a T. Members of a terrorist network that specializes in blowing up civilian targets are certainly not whom the authors of the conventions had in mind for POWs.
