he's willing to sacrifice the general economy for his handlers

The thing I find strangest is that Bush doesn't even seem to care that much about the issues he supposedly champions. He is caught up in the idea that he can throw his weight and influence around as if to reverse a lifetime of being a lightweight. He doesn't seem to realise that people respect the office and position and not him.
