Dick Morris: Browning of America Dooms GOP Increasing numbers of black and Hispanic voters will doom the GOP's chances to for electoral success by 2008. That's the assessment; not from conservative immigration opponent Pat Buchanan, but instead from America's preeminent political strategist, Dick Morris. "The Hispanic and black population increase, particularly the Hispanic population, has made New Jersey and New York and California and is making Florida into solidly Democratic states," Morris told nationally syndicated radio host Sean Hannity on Tuesday. "Four years from now - and eight years from now - the Republican Party will be fighting for its life because of this," he warned. Morris noted that in the 1988 presidential election, then-Vice President George Bush defeated Democrat Gov. Michael Dukakis in New Jersey's Bergen County by 15 points. Just twelve years later, he noted, then-Vice President Al Gore beat Bush's son by 15 points in the same county. "It's flipped 30 points between 1988 and 2000," said Morris. "That is what the Republican Party is facing all over the place." The one-time Clinton political guru predicted that Bush's home state of Texas would be the next big state to swing Democrat. Morris' advice to the GOP? "Nominate Colin Powell for president," he told Hannity, explaining that such a move would finally shatter the illusion that the GOP doesn't care about minorities.
