Hi SirRealist; This is exactly the reason I've been giving for why it is that these nations are going to develop nukes:

U.S.: North Korea admits nuke program
Andrea Koppel, John King, CNN, October 17, 2002
...
The official said Kelly told Kang that the United States knew the country had a secret nuclear weapons program using "different technology" from that used prior to 1994, and that North Korea had saved enough plutonium for at least two nuclear weapons.

The North Korean official then shocked Kelly when he looked at him and said "something to the effect of, 'Your president called us a member of the axis of evil. ... Your troops are deployed on the Korean peninsula. ... Of course, we have a nuclear program,'" according to the senior administration source, who was briefed on the meeting.

What the North Korean official said was that of course they have a nuclear program, they have strong reasons to believe that they're going to be attacked by the US. All the current noise about attacking Iraq only contributes to North Korea's belief that they need nukes for protection. Now North Korea is saying "leave us alone, now we have nukes just like you do."

As long as we pursue a foreign policy that involves beating the crap out of nations that don't have nukes, while giving leeway to ones who've got them, it's inevitable that nuclear weapons will proliferate. But we should not forget that these are primarily defensive weapons.

Of course most people are unable to see how things look from the viewpoint of their opponents, so they're not going to be able to understand this post.

P.S. We should have a news report to the effect that North Korea alleges that the United States has admitted to secretly developing and building nuclear weapons.
