<<We don't see 100 poor nations using the M16.>> I disagree. I think the choice of weapon M-16 Vs AK-47 is more a function of geography or tastes rather than wealth. The functioning of the M-16 has greatly improved while the price has been driven down. The news pictures of many of the bad guys / drug runners coming Central/ Central-South America / Mexico show a great many M-16 / AR-15s but from Asia & Northern / Mid Africa show the AK-47 & from Southern Africa & Southern South America show European / Israeli arms.
