Nothing is a 'must', I suppose... 38 - 50% would be typical, but hardly a must. I believe there is another popular Fibo, I believe, 21%+ or close to it, can't recall at the moment.

If the market is exceptionally strong, than it could retrace a mere 23% instead. However, it is possible that the market may not have finished the upside move based on today's action, and the retrace has not started yet.

Hard to make sense of something with so many holes, but my overall interpretation right now is not good.
