Carolina Circuits to close Greenville plant
ASSOCIATED PRESS

GREENVILLE, S.C. - Carolina Circuits will close its plant here by the end of next month, putting 139 people out of work, the plant's parent company says.

Solectron Corp. was unable to reach a deal with Asia ITN Ltd. to buy the plant here, Solectron spokesman Matt Roszell said Wednesday.

Solectron and ITN opened negotiations in September, a month after the plant here had its third round of layoffs.

"We've tried to find another buyer, but without success," Roszell said.

Solectron wanted to sell the plant because manufacture of printed circuit boards doesn't fit the company's core business, he said.

Solectron acquired the plant in December as part of a larger purchase.

Before the first round of layoffs in August 2001, the plant here employed 470 people.
