t4: Re; "i tire of guessing. what do you want america to do?

You’re absolutely correct there isn’t much the US can do in the Palestine/Israel situation. If they threaten to stop the several billion-dollar subsidies, which they give every year the PAC money will stop flowing into your politician’s coffers and they’ll be labeled anti-Semites to boot. If you ask for an accounting and reparations for you’re service men killed on the USS Liberty pretty much the same thing’ll happen. The nuclear materials stolen from your research establishments and used to supply the only country in the ME known to have nuclear weapons and who has threatened its neighbors with their use is probably also a little too embarrassing to pursue.

I suppose for the US to point out that the military aid is only meant to be used for defensive purposes and not to buy planes to bomb apartment buildings, tanks that flatten residential areas and bullets to kill kids might cause a ruckus too and once again could cut off that lovely PAC money.

In fact the US has very little influence in Israel any more, it’s the other way around it seems.

Yep I think your right... you’re really screwed.

Kids in Palestine don’t need lots of money to get an education but they do need to be able to get to school, which they can’t do when there is a curfew on without getting shot.

Its also harvest time there at the moment for the olives which they need for food and also for funds if there are enough to sell, unfortunately the settlers keep shooting them in their fields and the military won’t do anything to stop it.

Talking about education, an understanding of the background to the Palestinians claims is put forward quite elegantly in a .pdf file here. cactus48.com
It’s a bit of a read but quite educational. Published by a group who call themselves “Jews for Justice in the Middle East”.

Also some of the other articles found here you might find useful.

I think it’s difficult to get a true picture of what is happening there if one is only exposed to the US media, although the Internet certainly can fill in the gaps. Europe seems to have a more balanced view, not only of Israel/Palestine but the ME in general... hence the protests.

Regards
T.

I smell a whiff of bigotry but that is beside the point. The point is that if we think we can solve the middle east problem, how can that not include Palestine.
