You may have hit it on the head, J-X ... the news media had absolutely no business reporting on that ... actually the government had no business discussing it with the media unless it was a trial balloon to check public reaction to using the military for civilian police work ... there are simply many aspects of an investigation that do not need to be reported ... many years ago, all it took was for a CoP to tell us that he'd appreciate it if we'd keep something under our caps until he gave us the go-ahead ... we'd have gone to jail before repeating it ... these semi hysterical idiots we have gathering news today would rebel at a suggestion like that ... hmmmmmmmm

That or the announcement of the air surveillance.

I subscribe to a line of thought known as "Occam's Razor." It states that "when you have two competing theories which make exactly the same predictions, the one that is simpler is the better."

For example, one could theorize the latest victim was targeted because she was an FBI employee. To support that, one could do an in-depth investigation of what she was working on, find a link to terrorism, and thus conclude someone wanted her dead. Or, one could also theorize she was targeted simply because she was an easy shot for a killer who had parked his car near an easy escape route (and that many FBI agents live in the DC area). Occam's Razor would favor the latter theory as it's quite simple.

Of course we need to investigate if these killings are related to terrorism, just as we have to investigate dozens of other possibilities. But, right now, we have no actual *evidence* that we're dealing with someone other than a "run-of-the-mill" serial killer. As, sadly, history is filled with examples of such, Occam's Razor would say that's the most likely scenario.
