Possibilities

1 - AMD is blowing hot air.

2 - Intel is being conservative (maybe both 1 and 2)

3 - Intel stuffedthe channel and so expects lower demand next Q.

4 - (perhaps least likely but the best for AMD) Both Intel and AMD think AMD will be in a better competitive position in the next Q.

5 - AMD anticipates getting or has gotten a big order from one of the box makers.

Any other ideas?

Tim, this is a guess........but we know that AMD blew out chip inventories in the channels. In addition the China deal is a possibility. I think both are feeding AMD's optimism while I think INTC's ASPs are down due to their stealing market share, and like you say, they have too much inventory in the channels although they deny that that's true. I think both those issues may be contributing to their negative outlook.

However, I also am concerned that AMD may be blowing smoke but that's because of market conditions rather than believing they would deliberately mislead us.

Does the above sound reasonable to you?
