What wasn't mentioned is that MSNBC, which they own 50% of, is having revenues that are about 50% lower than last year. MSNBC is saddled with poor management and sales. Plus they have Donahue (LOL).
That, and 50% (or more) of MSN's advertising is.....MSFT!!! What a surprise.
XBox is a colossal failure in most respects. My kids specifically asked for GameCube. While they talk about XBox from time to time, it's really a non-factor when I hear the kids chat about gaming. GameCube is huge due to the GameBoy connectivity. I'm not sure MSFT can crack that.
A buddy of mine in branding has told me MSFT is trying to rebrand XBox. That's usually a sure sign of disaster.

More on MSFT:

"The company blew past consensus analyst earnings forecasts for the fiscal first quarter on revenue that grew 26 percent. The company lowered second-quarter earnings expectations, however, as CFO John Connors expects demand for personal computers to remain weak."

Why bid up if future expectations were lowered?
