Symbian has officially announced that Samsung will use its OS in a range of smartphone products. Samsung's first Symbian handset will be a 2.5G smartphone using Nokia's Series 60 interface.

Samsung is planning further Symbian OS models for 2.5G and 3G networks, including both GSM- and CDMA-based standards. Symbian added CDMA support to its OS earlier this year and Samsung announced that it was licensing Nokia's Series 60 in August 2002. Samsung is the world's third largest handset manufacturer and one of the fastest growing.

We look forward to delivering open Symbian OS phones to global markets.
