Mucho...the prolific, random credit card solicitations to my house have stopped in recent months....what's coming now is much more specific, as in the Sears/MC thing that I experienced, and the sneaky higher credit limit being posted on the account I opened only for my college son's use.

I believe this indicates I will have to be much more vigilant now, than I ever was when receiving the random mailings from companies I have never done business with. That's my opinion, anyway.

Should point out, I guess, that most of the solicitations coming to our house over the past few years were addressed to my sons, as one had recently graduated from college and the other from high school--credit card companies were after them like crazy for a while.

it must have amounted to many hundreds of pounds of mail. this must cost them something. why don't they learn?

Overall, this type of advertising is the most effective for credit card companies - they've done a lot of market research studies on this. One response out of several hundred can generate a signicant ROI on the mailing.

I was getting a lot of mail from Providian last year (everyday, some kind of offer) and I called them up to tell them to stop mailing me, which they are legally obligated to do. That would save some paper at the very least.
