see it happen quite a bit. it seems, on the QQQs at least, that if the number of options on bid/ask is a nice round number like, say, 2000, it's a program buying/selling. especially on lower-volume options deeper ITM that always have at least a couple K on bid/ask but trade only 15 (or whatever) contracts all day.

PB, many options are not liquid and they may not have to honor their bid/ask. Also different exchanges have different bid/ask and in many cases you can't control which exchange your order is routed to. I never do market orders with options.

A couple of times my broker seems to have insisted that my order be filled at the level prevailing --that is, I have had corrected (in my favor) orders show up on my statement.
