Hi CobaltBlue; Re: "Lee's men were willing to fight to the death, ..."

(1) What people say and what they actually will do are two different things, LOL.

(2) Since you're not one of Lee's men, you can only speculate on what they really would have done if Lee had wanted to continue fighting. But the historical record is incompatible with your guess. For example:

Confederate Gen. Joseph E. Johnston met with President Jefferson Davis on April 12 and again on April 13, in which Davis positioned to raise new armies with provisions to continue the war effort. Johnston replied, "My views are, sir, that our people are tired of war, feel themselves whipped, and will not fight. Our country is overrun, its military reserves greatly diminished, while the enemy's military power and resources were never greater, and may be increased to any extent required." Gen. P.G.T. Beauregard was in attendance and agreed with Johnston. Davis finally accepted the defeat.

You're just wrong if you think that humans are willing to fight against impossible odds forever. To imagine that Americans are somehow different is to be intrinsically racist or nationalistic.
