I know the local right enjoys dumping on Carter no end. He seems to be approaching NYT status with you and Nadine, whether that's a positive or a negative depends on your viewpoint. But then there's the Pakistan angle, and the decades of bipartisan history in the cynical yearly official certification to Congress that Pakistan was not developing nukes, when everybody knew full well they were.

Of course, Wolfowitz had a prepared line on that. I imagine Wolfowitz has prepared lines on any number of things. My impression that we've been plenty engaged with Pakistan, since the Kissinger era at least and probably well before that too. India always had this faint red tinge in right wing eyes, near as I can tell. Democracy? Who cared, they were friendly with the Soviets.

::splurt!::

Even in their last days in office, Clinton officials were scrambling to conclude a new bribery payment, this time with space-launch vehicle technology.

WHAT??! Why didn't they just freakin GIVE THEM THE ICBMs and be over it?!

What were they thinking?
