Actually, the question should be.. "why did Ho Chi Minh get in bed with the Soviet Union"?? What??? Is their some suggestion that the USA would have helped Vietnam free themselves from the heel of the French colonists?? By giving back Vietnam back to the French after WW2 they didn't show much of their love for universal democracy. Far from it. Ho Chi Minh was a commie because those were the only guys who showed some interest in the liberation of his country. Everyone else was a deaf ear.
