the cow,

i think i will be able to get the drive to install without too many hitches. i'll probably use the win2k startup disks rather than trying the cd. it's been more then a year since i installed a drive and i can't remember those details for any periods of time.

i did try to install the drive this morning and got stopped as my motherboard is three years old and would not support a 120 gig drive. i had to flash the bios, something i have never done before. and, of course, win2k does not really boot to dos so i had to boot with a win98 startup disk and then flash the bios. all this took a while to figure out.

it seemed to go great with everything working fine until i tried to shut down the box. no deal, the power button is dead. well i checked out the microsoft knowledge base and found some stuff on that. i am working on it. i belive this happened to my computer once before and it was related to the power management. this is one of the areas suggested by ms, as well as the bios. i guess i will eventually get it right but, until then, i can't install the new drive.

it was kind of a nice day outside, so i took some time and walked about.
