Nadine, Islamic melting pots involved large jars of hot cooking oil, [in modern times I suppose they use more oxidation resistant mineral oils], into which could be placed recalcitrant Christians [and other infidels] who escaped being fed to lions by the Romans. The western Christians, being less advanced than the then ascendant Moslems, and not having studied heat transfer fluids, burned witches at the stake using wood. Lambasting? I guess that was the origin. <Not to mention the rich irony of lambasting occupation from occupied Beirut, or praising the cultural melting-pot of Lebanon. Hey, I hear Hizbullah is really big on cultural melting-pots, I think they call it conversion at gun-point, that's why the Christians of Lebanon are running for their lives. > Mqurice
