Well, I'm not interested in sending anyone on some guilt trip. The history is there to see we what can be done about the future, the past is done. It might not have been democracy that got the USA into Vietnam, but it's my guess that democracy got it out of Vietnam. President Nixon carried out the wishes of the electorate on that occasion. Actually Nixon was a dedicated public servant who sometimes gets treated a little harshly in history I think. Some 13 yr old kid just announced I was "cool" (much to the later annoyance and deep embarrassment of my 13 yr old daughter. Fathers are never "cool") because I persuaded them to give up smoking and showed them how to do it. It turned out later they were also friends of my daughter. Done my bit today setting the world a little straighter :-)
