Vietnam today is a miserable slave pen

Yep, I used to work with a guy from Vietnam. He told me he deserted from the (northern) army during the war. He still went back to Vietnam to visit family though, and was also to marry a girl their too. Amazed he didn't see any risk of being punished for desertion.

The USA has in fact now won that war I think.

Speaking of Stalinists. There are still a few floating around the Ukraine. They think fondly of the times when "Old Joe" ruled the roost and everything was kept in good order. Very few trouble makers back then, and you could always report them.

My brother helps run an English speaking school in Kiev. The authorities were a little suspicious of his motives. Why should Ukrainians need to speak English??? Thier view is still we should learn to speak Ukrainian -lol-

I have a part-time employee from Viet Nam, a 22 year old accounting student. Her family immigrated a few years ago. I remember asking her once what her father did for a living here in the US. She said he was a stocker for Walmart.

A few months ago she expressed some interest in going full-time. When I asked why she would consider cutting back on her classes in order to work more, she said her family was hoping to buy a house and she was concerned her mother might be laid off her job. Unthinkingly, I said something to the effect that it was a shame her father made so little money.

"Oh, no!" she responded. "My dad, he make a LOT of money!"
