So do the continual attacks on Iraqi property. If I enforce a No-Fly Zone over San Diego, I think some people in the USA would consider that an act of war and they would come gunning for me. <According to debka and some other sources that CobaltBlue has been tracking, these joint operations are already underway, under cover of "routine" military wargames. > So the war is on and has been for years and years and years. Yes, the UN has issued some proclamations approving such war, but that doesn't mean it isn't war. The UN has no legitimacy and that's reflected in USA [and others] refusal to comply with edicts laid down by the UN. If the UN had legitimacy, the defiance of that legitimacy would mean the USA is a criminal state. Iraq declared war on Kuwait. The USA declared war on Iraq and has never ceased that war. So it's only a matter of whether it's a big war or a little war and what the warriors think they are going to achieve. One of the things they achieve is keeping Iraqi oil off the markets, which keeps oil prices up, which maintains oil company profits at very high levels. BP, Shell, Exxon and others have had a wildly profitable decade thanks to their crude oil being sold at higher prices than a free market in crude oil would allow. Russia does well out of it. So does France [nuclear reactors are more profitable when not competing with $10 a barrel oil], though it's a split decision for them, depending on who the cronies are of the politicians and president]. GeorgeW is an oil guy, so is Cheney and a lot more are too. When people benefit from a course of action, it's notoriously difficult for them to be unbiased, although they honestly might think they are. Since the USA is attacking Saddam and has been for ages, it's not surprising that he supports those who support destruction of, and making life difficult for, the USA. That would include Moslem terrorists in Indonesia, Osama, suicide bombers in Israel and anything else to dissuade the USA from continuing the attack. So, either lay off him, call a truce and hope he calls it quits and cuts off the terrorists, or get stuck in and get rid of him completely. Meanwhile, renovate the UN into a supranational political entity with far less busy-body intent and far more power to avoid 'tragedy of the commons' destruction, and to designate and protect borders and other property. Also, Milosevic should be released. What a pathetic circus. If they haven't got enough evidence to deal with him in 2 weeks, they obviously haven't got enough to justify such an absurd effort. It's money for lawyers by the look of it and no justice. If Milosevic is a war criminal, how about Kissinger showing up for his turn in the dock and taking responsibility for My Lai, not to mention that Kerry guy? I also heard there was some bombing in Cambodia, not to mention swarms of B52s without smart bombs, laying waste to millions of civilians in Vietnam. Oh, that's right, the USA is above the law other than the law of the jungle. Which makes sense because there isn't actually any law despite the pretence in the long and grinding, but very profitable and pretentious, trial of Milosevic. Mqurice
