MSFT
With PCs at $3000 it made sense to pay $150 to MSFT. Now with PCs at $400 it doesn't make sense to pay $150 for MSFT bugware.
IMO sometime somehow their monopoly on PC desktop will be broken. Linux of FreeBSD or whatever will reside on most desktops. With 100% security, 100% reliability, $0 in maintenance costs it just makes sense! 400MHz with 128MB should be enough for most desktop tasks. WinTel is dead. VIA makes good CPUs for $20.
I think it will start with corporations. They have a standard set of software on their desktops. It will be to their advantage if the user won't be able to install some crappy applications line Napster or KazaA. Microsoft (and Intel) will do their best to derail this movement, but the economic sense should eventually prevail. BWDIK
