What I said about Afghanistan is very simple- I wish they were still fighting the USSR. Better that they have another enemy other than us (the US).

Somehow JLA thought I was procommie, and Neo thought I was saying something about buying their friendship. I begin to wonder about the reading ability on this thread. Not very satisfying to talk to people who can't read what I write, and need to make up other, rather stupid, straw men. Have fun today boys.

During that time, there were attacks on the US, even if not from Afghanistan, in West German discos near NATO bases and even on airplanes (as in the Lockerbie incident). Additionally, if we had not helped them, it is likely that the Soviets would have pacified most of the countryside, and therefore that they would not be very occupied fighting the Soviets, but could move on......The point about winning their friendship is that we remain perrenially an target of the fanatics, and some will always want to target us......
