well, since java is gaining ground with the wireless devices I would say .NET is more of a gamble at this point.

The engines for the JDK and the .net interpreters are comparable. Java code for the JDK on most platforms runs at speeds pretty close to that of compiled C code.

Also, to Lizzie, J2EE does run on Linux.
