After the Bell: Techs Fall

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Texas Instruments Inc.(NYSE:TXN - News) fell more than 17 percent in extended-hours trade on Monday after a dour outlook, while other technology shares followed the downward trend after a rally during the regular session.

Texas Instruments, the world's No. 1 maker of semiconductors for cellular phones, fell to $14.20 on Instinet after the close from its finish of $17.12 on the New York Stock Exchange.

The company reported a third-quarter profit versus a year-ago loss that was in line with expectations, but the company, saying orders were generally weaker in the third quarter compared with the second, drastically cut its revenue and profit expectations for the fourth quarter.

The Nasdaq 100 after-hours indicator dropped 1.21 percent. Stocks had leaped during the regular session, driving the market higher for the seventh time in the last eight sessions as Wall Street's dramatic turnaround over the past two weeks mends tattered investor confidence.
