A policy of Mutually Assured Destruction might have kept the nuclear powers from incinerating each other but only because they were both rational enough to know the end result no matter who pushed the button first. I oppose nuclear proliferation in countries that are still technically in the bronze age because the thinking of their leaders is usually in the stone age. They have no concept of what MAD as a strategy really is. To them, it's just a big fourth of July fireworks display, and they want to see it.

All through this debate on the Second Amendment, what I'm advocating is the RIGHT to keep and bear arms. I'm not advocating that everybody actually keep them, but the right is important. I have several firearms myself, but I have no need to carry one except when I go out in the woods or to the range.
