The Romans were the people of the Roman empire... It was an Empire because of the excessive testosterone of the leaders i.e. the EMPERORS But NOT all Romans had extravagant life styles... And yes, the Romans also had the capacity to think. That's why they had a Senate a Republic and actually quite smart warriors.... beat the cr*p out of many others... They built roads (all leading to Rome -g) and so on... like today... it is the ones at the helm of power who have excesses... Greed and all the rest that goes with it is a human trait, the Romans had no monopoly on it
