The SMH has about 20 stocks in it, but they are the cap weights of the SOX. The XLK has a much broader exposure to technology and more closely follows the NDX.

No, look in the holders site.

They have Intel, AMAT, and TXN heavily weighted. The SOX does not. Look up sectors components at the Philadelphia Stock Exchange. MXIM, KLAC, NVLS, and one other stock comprise almost half of the SOX weight.
