US complicity in starvation and disease in Iraq

That is the Euro and left line, John. I have difficulty with that concept when Saddam is controlling where things go in Iraq. He has all the money he needs for anything he wants to spend it on.

"The Fifty-first State?" is not available on line. I will read it at Borders later today.

John, you just finished reading Pollack, who I'm finding very credible as I go along. Your statement about what Harper's reports therefore surprises me.

The "starving Iraqi babies" canard is simply not grounded in fact. Smugglers took a lot of the food and drugs destined for Iraq and sold them in neighboring countries. Don't you remember Pollack's statement about Rx drugs being sold in Jordan as either "Iraqi" or "generic"?

Oil for food was bitterly fought by.....Saddam! It wasn't until he had no choice that he signed onto the program. After its implementation, a lot of the stuff which was bought ended up smuggled into Jordan and other countries. What did the UN or the US have to do with that?

The suggestion that the US and the UN are somehow responsible for Iraq's travails, without laying a bit of responsibility on Saddam, who is responsible for slaughtering his own people, is one of the most incredibly hypocritical bits of journalism I have ever witnessed.
