sure we have, after a decade of sanctions and random bombing over there we are now sending a very very clear message: if you'd rather be treated like pakistan-india-Nkorea than like panama-grenada-cuba-sudan-libya-serbia-iran-iraq-etc-etc-etc...

develop a nucleur device ASAP by whatever means necessary.

then it doesn't matter how horrible you are to your people - and the north korean leadership is at least as bad as the iraqi leadership - you'll be treated with a measure of "respect".

imo this is a terrible message to be sending.

for pete's sake, we even have an army on the korean peninsula that has spent the last 40 years getting ready to march north, and all we're going to do is talk? makes no sense to me whatsoever.
