I have no interest in Tennis, it's sad to see this news though.

(I liked listening to Becker and McEnroe commenting on Wimbledon....If these guys can't turn a buck...who can???)

After this story on Rosco Tanner...

Champ's fall from grace

How the mighty have fallen.

Australian tennis fans, who no doubt will remember our 1977 (January) Open champion Roscoe Tanner, will be saddened to learn that the man who was once ranked fourth in the world is now wanted by police in America and faces arrest if he sets foot back in his homeland.

Once living a millionaire's jet-set lifestyle and these days understood to be coaching in Europe, he is currently wanted in two states over alle gations of fraud and failure to pay child support.

Tanner's troubles revolve around a number of failed business ventures since he retired from the game in 1984 and includes allegations that he swindled a Florida marine broker out of $70,000 for a luxury yacht he bought a girlfriend in 2000.

There is also a Georgia warrant for his arrest over alleged non-payment of child support, similar accusations of which have already resulted in him spending brief periods in jail, once last year and also in 1997, around the time that he divorced Charlotte, his wife of 15 years.

/edit. Comment: $70k does not buy much of a "Luxury yacht" these days. Maybe the maintenance expenses for a year or two. No more. The boat I would like to buy costs X10's that amount (before VAT) -g-
