Because there is no currency alternative. Had the world had an alternative currency the dollar had already collapsed.

The Euro was devised as this alternative but the European governments do not have the punch. That's why they want to add ten Eastern European countries to the EU to see if they achieve critical mass to challenge the US dollar.
