Instead of continuing to pursue profits in gold and speculate where gold is headed next, lots of folks will do well to channel some energy towards tracking and apprehending the sniper who has sworn he's gonna take out children next if his demands are nor met!

It is both flabbergasting and interesting to note that, despite the superabundance of shrinks in America, there still exist sickos who have turned snipers. Maybe one explanation is that a good number of the shrinks themselves have become sickos.

US sniper demands US$10m ransom: Report

WASHINGTON -- The Washington-area sniper has demanded a ransom of US$10 million (S$17.9 million) and has reprimanded the police for failing to respond to half a dozen calls from him, The Washington Post said on Wednesday, quoting law enforcement sources.

The killer's letter was found late on Saturday at the scene of the latest confirmed sniper shooting outside a restaurant in Ashland, southern Virginia.

According to the sources quoted by the Post, the letter was three pages long, handwritten, wrapped in plastic and tacked to a tree.

In angry tones, the sniper complained that police dispatchers had ignored half a dozen of his calls, branded them as 'incompetent', and added that 'five people had to die' because of the bungling.

The letter gave a deadline of Monday for US$10 million to be deposited in a bank account, according to several sources who have seen photocopies of the letter, the daily said.

It also reprimanded the police, saying it would be better for them to try to stop the killings rather than make an arrest.

The letter, said the sources, also included the same phrase the murderer had jotted down on a Tarot card left at the scene of an Oct 7 shooting: 'I am God.'

Montgomery County police chief Charles Moose, who is coordinating the hunt for the sniper, on Tuesday read a police response supposedly to the sniper's message, telling him 'it is not possible electronically to comply in the manner that you requested'.

While the police chief did not elaborate, he could have been referring to the electronic transfer of money.

Chief Moose also told the sniper that if a toll-free telephone number given to him to contact police did not work, a post office box could be set up supposedly to channel the communications.

In a previous communication to the sniper, Chief Moose asked that he call again to the number provided since the person who had taken the call did not understand fully what was said over the line.

A law enforcement official told the Post the dispatcher who took the sniper's alleged call 'did not understand the importance of what was happening... She pretty much blew him off'.

The official described the caller as 'extremely angry', using phrases like 'Just shut up and listen', 'Hear me out', 'I am God' and 'I'm in charge'. -- AFP

Some Fundamental Insights Into the Benevolent Nature of Capitalism
By
George Reisman
By the "benevolent nature of capitalism," I mean the fact that it promotes human life and well-being and does so for everyone. The are many such insights, which have been developed over more than three centuries, by a series of great thinkers, ranging from John Locke to Ludwig von Mises and Ayn Rand. I present as(cont)
