I wonder why the police haven't seen fit to publicly release most of that information. A few interesting clues: 1. "It was a tape-recorded message played into the phone, sources said, and parts of it were unintelligible." So we apparently have the sniper standing at a phone booth near a gas station in Richmond playing a tape recorded message. Sounds like the sniper was using one of those handheld portable dictation devices with tinny speakers. Add to it his desire to get funds wired electronically somewhere and he doesn't sound like your average blue-collar outdoor laborer as we first surmised when told of the white van with ladder rack sightings. I'm a little perplexed by the recording. At first some might argue it was to disguise his voice. But we know this guy has called the hotline several times and yelled at people, so it's not like he's shy in this regard. My guess here is that he didn't want to give anyone an excuse to engage him in conversation and keep him on the line so he could be traced. They had no choice but to listen. 2. The handwritten letter running at least three pages was found sealed and wrapped in plastic in the woods... neatly printed on lined paper and included a number of grammatical errors, including sentence fragments and misspellings Wrapping the note in plastic to protect it from the elements sounds like something a hunter or a military person would do. Unless I knew a rain storm was coming I doubt in such circumstances I and most of us here would bother to wrap the letter in plastic. As for the note itself, given the lengths this guy has gone to elude police, I'd think he was quite conscious when constructing it to give as few clues as possible in it that might be indicative of his real identity. Therefore, I'm not going to read anything into the bad spelling and grammar. However, handwriting expert will probably say that this guy is neat and organized, which would be in keeping with his attention to detail both in providing clues and in his getaways. - Jeff
