It has nothing to do with Israel withdrawing from Lebanon.

zonder, you don't need to go back and refight the war since 1948 to understand the reason Arafat believed he could win these last two years. It was a direct result of Israel pulling out of Lebanon. We have read report after report of it here. The Palestinians looked upon it as a sign of weakness on the part of Israel, and increased the suicide bombers as a result of it. Goldberg's article in the New Yorker discusses the use of their TV station by the Hizbollah to recruit bombers.

Not sure I can follow you there. You think he reason Palestinians are popping themselves up in increasing frequencies because Israel withdrew from Lebanon? That is very funny :)

Dead serious, and not funny at all. They listened to Sheikh Nasrallah, who assured them that the withdrawal proved that Israel was a "spiderweb society" that only looked tough, but had no balls. So naturally, they tried to emulate Hizbullah's winning tactics. After all, why make painful concessions at the negotiating table if a year or two of fighting will win the same gains without concessions?

Do read Goldberg's article in the New Yorker. You are not appreciating how Hizbullah and the PLO leaders think. But they do not hide their thinking; you just have to listen to them and believe that they are sincere.
