The battle between market share and profitability is an interesting one. Do you want to accept lower market share in exchange for higher margins, or is greater market share (and with it, competitiveness) a value at lower margins?

Personally, having worked for 2 companies that opted for the first (and are now struggling because of it), I prefer the latter.
Accepting less share to maintain margins infers a feeling of invulnerability on the part of management. It works in the short run, but is a killer down the road.
