There is a cover-up going on somewhere the question is why? Obviously if it was a local the police would release everything they had. This tactic caught the unabomber and it works. The police don't appear to be looking for more information from the public which means they have identified the culprit and don't want to spread general panic.

Egregiously wrong, on both counts. No one would tolerate paying them off and forgetting about it. Secondly, the probability of this sniper being a threat to the President, with all of the security surrounding him, is ludicrously small. The sniper is very opportunistic in choice of targets, careful to stay away from situations where he might be pursued or where there might be useful witnesses......
