I believe this is temporary and LU will beat NT and here is why. LU is clearly not basing the future on H/W sales. In fact, what I heard today is new investments in software and services. I also heard a credible strategy to 35% margins. In watching the spate of announcements, I see Lucent becoming the leader in 3G deployments. On the call, it was stated that margins are better in the mobility segment products. LU is taking share in North America in CDMA... International coming on strong in India and China... Renewed focus where LU is strongest --> optical transport. In the short term, NT is taking share from LU in data networking. I see NT coming on strong with ATM and IP switching... but in the long term, they will be in Cisco's face and Cisco will end up eating their lunch... I think we will see LU exiting more and more data segment stuff.. the Cascade gravy train is out of steam...
