Sun may not care about Linux, but J2EE runs there just the same. (And they can't figure out if they care about Linux or not. One day they are going to support it, and the next they aren't.)

Also, the .Net engine has an interpreter in the same sense that the JDK does. (The .Net engine was written based on Microsoft's Java engine, and by the same team of people that wrote their Java engine.)
