Is there a crack in the tech ranks over expensing options, or is this just bluster?

Oracle CFO looks to long term for growth

biz.yahoo.com

(Oracle CFO)Mr Henley says that Oracle has long accepted that options "bear an economic cost", and the company would consider expensing them voluntarily.

However, he also believes that the way the cost of options are calculated has not yet been resolved, and intends to play a full part in the debate that shapes that decision.

If Oracle had expensed options for the fiscal year ending 5/31/02 using Black Scholes, their EPS would have been reduced from 39 cents to 32 cents EPS. This negative impact on earnings from expensing options for Oracl isn't nearly as bad as compared to what the impact would be on some of their bretheren----Sebl comes to mind.

Best, Huey
