Then according to Montgomery and Garrison, Hackworth is wrong.

But the main point to this discussion is that the Oct 3 fiasco would not have been affected by the request for armor which was too late to have been implemented. The Rangers and Delta operated without armor and planned their missions independent of the higher command. They had armor in reserve and used it.
Bowden's states that had it arrived earlier in the mission they might have saved the life of only one soldier...

I believe that it was the gungho attitude of Garrison and his Rangers that caused the debacle...
