Hawkmoon, re: Muslim culture contribution to world civilization (paraphrasing here) in the last couple hundred years, I'm in agreement w/ you - the contribution has been near zero. As to the rest of your post, and your subsequent post, dig deeper<wink>.

Hi Hawkmoon; Re: "They could even permit their men and women to conduct suicide attacks against IDF soldiers, if they chose and I would only begin questioning whether their cultural values were consistent with civilized behavior."

After the most recent suicide bombing, the bus the suicide bombers got exploded for some time as a result of all the munitions that the Israeli soldiers carried cooking off on it:

Israelis crawl out of bus inferno
CNN.com, October 21, 2002
KARKUR JUNCTION, Israel (Reuters) -- Michael Yitzhaki did not have a moment to spare when an explosives-packed car drove up to the back of the bus he was riding in Monday and turned it into an inferno.
...
"There was a passenger who ... alighted two steps and then there was an explosion from a car bomb ... nothing had looked suspicious on the way," he said. "The entire bus flew in the air."

Survivors said the suicide bombing, claimed by the militant Palestinian group Islamic Jihad, ignited a fuel tank or ammunition carried by soldiers among the passengers on the bus, setting off a chain of new explosions.

"There were explosions non-stop and the flareup was so fast that I couldn't understand how. It looks like the fuel tank was hit first. The flames ate up the bus with amazing speed, and with the ammunition going off as well, we didn't manage to get back inside to save anyone," Yitzhaki said.

Armed soldiers are definitely fair game in war. The conservatives on this thread (including myself) have often argued that when civilians are killed in attacks on soldiers, it's the fault of the local authorities for keeping soldiers (with ammunition!!!) in the presence of civilians.

Maybe that's why the Israelis haven't responded much to the attack.
