RtS, >the market could be right if it is looking beyond the next couple of quarters to better days ahead. It could also be wrong.< I agree. The market did this once already when it priced semi equips higher early last year. When the expected improvement in business did not materialize, prices dropped again.

A chart of AMAT with SEMI bookings shows this home.attbi.com

The market may be right this time because more time has gone by. It is disturbing that the market can change its mind in a few days without much new visible news.

RtS, your remark was from Wednesday. But I think today's labor news release will be very positive for stock prices. Basically it shows strong continuation of reduction in new unemployment claims. This trend started several weeks ago, and of course one couldn't tell if it was an aberration or an actual improvement. but more and more, it looks like the reduction of unemployment has started. I really think the short side is a cooked goose now.

"The moving average, which smooths out those week-to-week fluctuations, fell by 5,500 last week to 404,000. That was the lowest level since Aug. 31. "

Actually, this is not true. Things I follow say the demand for wireless really is coming back. Add in that companies will eventually have to upgrade PCs and servers as Michael has told us and those companies like Dell and HPQ will do better and their share prices reflect this. We still have tons of capacity in fiber/telecom so those companies are still hurting and expect to hurt for another year...

I've seen a few advertisements for those cell phones that show pictures. I really believe this is the killer application... a camera in a cell phone that you can share your photos with people like an IM.... if they are smart and charge a small fee to do the share, like just a penny... it could be a nice revenue generator. Next you need ways to easily beam the cell phone pictures into your PC...

Already, you can take the smart media cards out of cameras and plug them directly into some of the new printers and get photos... I think the printers even have little viewers to see what photos you select... don't color viewers use semicapx equipment to build? I can see little color viewers on all sorts of things to read these smart media cards...
