Miljenko, I don't know. If Pfizer was first on PDE5, not an assignor nor research institution, and if they prevail on this issue, they'll be happy. But -- their competitors may use the same legal theory to cut them out on Geodon, Lipitor, Viracept, etc., etc., etc.

This is one of the largest cans of worms I have ever seen. For a PFat-cat to raise it to their HUGE potential detriment would cause me to demand the ouster of PFE's CEO, if I were a shareholder.

To stretch the point, far beyond where it breaks: My Great^5000 Grandfather, Og, was the first human being to notice that when one thing happens, another follows. His seminal realization occurred when he observed that water, placed in a pot over a fire, always turned into steam. Much^4900+ generations later, others used steam to turn wheels, and some Og descendants made the further inventions of the Industrial Revolution, based on Og's prior art.

Of course, after 5000 generations, many, if not all of us are entitled to share in the profit of Og's invention, because most living people are related to him. As a successful inventor, he had many children, grandchildren, etc. He had tons of wives, but of course, women were bigger then, so a "ton of wives" was far less than 2,000 women. But I digress.

But! Og invented, and trademarked as best he could in his day, the word "cause" and the word "effect". He spelled them KAWZ and EEEFEK, but so what. Being literate at all was way ahead of his time. Virtually every increase in human capital since that day is covered by Og's trademark on those words. This is so, even though his original patent lapsed 5000 generations ago, minus 19 years! And his use patents expired a few years after, and his challenges to generic KAWZ and EEEFEK expired 30 months after the use patents.

Of course, I'm being ridiculous. I think that Pfizer is being ridiculous. 'PF 'em.
